Qatar’s lender acquires 100 percent stake in Turkey’s ABank
The Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ) has now become the sole owner of Turkey’s Alternatif bank (ABank) in a deal signed with Turkey’s Anadolu Group. he Commercial Bank, which had acquired a 70.8 percent stake in the bank from Anadolu Group in July 2013 before increasing its shares to 75 percent with share buyback, bought Anadolu Group’s remaining 25 percent stake for $222.5 million, thereby becoming the sole owner of the bank, the companies said in a statement.

NBAD-FGB tie-up could trigger M&A wave in banking sector, say analysts
Analysts have said an NBAD-FGB tie-up could mark the start of a wave of consolidation in the UAE banking sector, which is crowded with more than 50 banks and squeezed by lower government spending and tougher global capital rules. Shares in National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) and First Gulf Bank (FGB) soared on Sunday after they confirmed discussing a possible merger to create what would be one of the largest banks in the Middle East and Africa.
